Bacchus 2019

Bacchus 2019

From £16.95

A blend of multiple unique batches, Bacchus is one of the stars of our range, delivering a distinctive wine characterised by water-white paleness, a crisp refreshing mouthfeel and notable aromatic complexity.  The diversity of aromas range from herbal (basil, sage, nettle) to citrus (lime, grapefruit) to fruit (medlar, mango, passionfruit) to floral (elderflower).   The Bacchus grape variety originated in Germany in the 1930’s as a cross between Muller-Thurgau and Silvaner x Riesling which has helped contribute to its complex nature.   We pick and ferment multiple batches in the winery to ensure this complexity is expressed in our wine.

Is this the best English Bacchus?   Try a few and judge for yourself.  Our Bacchus has consistently won awards every year since the 2014 vintage was crowned the top wine in the UK in the WineGB Wine Awards of 2015.  Similar to previous vintages, this 2019 vintage has been awarded SILVER (90 points) at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021.

WInemakers Notes:

The small and cool harvest of 2019 has created a Bacchus with a light mouthfeel and an aromatic profile with greater fruit than floral intensity. The wine is pale as usual, with an expressive nose ranging from green lemon thyme, lime, basil and tomato leaf to riper mango and yellow plumbs and hints of elderflower. It’s very refreshing and light on the palate expressing the cooler weather in 2019.

Food Match Suggestions: Seafood, Shellfish, Goats Cheese, Caesar Salad, Rocket Salads, Asparagus or a classic Prawn cocktail.
