ABOUT SPECS & BEAR
Spec’s & Bear was born from a tipsy night on some expensive gin where Phil and Karen dreamed about owning a food business, not quite sure what food or even how it was going to be presented or even where and how it was going to be sold More alcohol flowed over the weeks and the conversations grew more serious to where they found themselves one day looking at a very sad Horsebox under a tree full of old wet furniture……Sold !!!!!! and there the dream and hardwork began.
Bear set to work renovating the sorry Horsebox and Specs paced around thinking what she could do which would excite the people of Kent , Specs wanted something niche and unusual , just as unusual as the Horsebox was starting to turn out with a barrel for a sink and cupboards made from palettes. It took another few Gin based evenings before one night Specs shouted from the sofa ” RACLETTE , RACLETTE CHEESE THATS IT!!!”
Soon after menus were created and Horsebox were finished , local bakers and coffee roasters from Sevenoaks were sourced and sustainable cutlery arrived . An ethos was also born where S&B would use local people and source local and try to give their community something back. The day of reckoning came , the special cheese grill was roaring away and a half wheel of RACLETTE was slowly melting and crisping up giving people who passed by a memory or flashback of times when skiing or when they lived in France when they were young.
People stopped, and they bought our food, and they loved it, and they started telling their friends and family about a bearded man and a spectacled lady who called themselves Specs and Bear who had an old rustic Horsebox. And then the festivals flowed , the private functions we attended , the community events we stood proud to be part of where we lived . Specs and Bear had arrived.
